A Century of Learning PDF Print E-mail

Brigalow State School celebrated a century of learning on 19th April 2008. Over 800 visitors attended the celebrations including Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce AC, Governor of Queensland.

The visitors were treated to a Maypole dance by present students and staff. The maypole has been danced at many of the schools celebrations over the years.

The current students also performed a bush ballad that they had written with the help of Wally 'The Bear' Finch, a professional bush poet. The ballad told of the history of the Brigalow District and school. All the students enjoyed presenting their poem from the Preppie Cactoblastis moths to the older students reciting their lines.

Her Excellency Ms Quentin Bryce spoke with warmth about the value of small schools and their place in the bigger picture. After the official functions Ms Bryce spent some time talking to her admirers both young and old.

There was plenty of time for everyone to catch up with friends they hadn't seen for years and their was much laughter and reminicing.

After the daytime celebrations an old time dance was held in the Brigalow Hall which was packed to capacity and overflowing. Young and old, people were dancing the night away.

On the Sunday, the Brigalow Uniting Chuch held a service to give thanks for the years of education in the Brigalow district. Many people who attended the service had also attended the Church for Sunday School as children.
